I am interested in semi-retiring in Panama. I am looking for a highrise in Panama City and raw land in the country (to build a home). I will not relocate for approxiametly three (3) years, but will return in March, 2008, to attempt to purchase real estate. I am a psychoanalyst and would like either to be self-employed, teach at one of the local universities or work in a hospital parttime. I am experiencing difficulties with the Houston, Texas, and US Panamanian Consulate (Washington, D.C.) responding to calls and emails. I need to know residency requirements and how to have my degrees and license evaluated. Are you able to provide guidance and direction?
Respectfully submitted,
Calvin E. Buckley, Ph.D.

Hi Calvin,
I just came back from Panama last Sunday and I have witness the tremendous growth and appreciation that Panama is experiencing. Last night I have called a Real Estate Broker friend of mine in Panama and ask him your questions he suggested to talk to a lawyer friend of his who specializes in inmigration matters like getting you a permanent visa and how to establish a company in Panama etc. By the way last week while in Panama I met a lawyer her name is Mitzi Villalobos 011-507-6678-9174 Panama Legal Management is her company.
I think either Mitzi or the other lawyer that my friend is going to give me his name and number should be able to help you.

When we visit Panama City for two weeks, is a
typhoid immunization necessary? We assume it is
only if one plans to stay a long time or goes into
an area not recommended for tourists.

Hi,
I’m a Realtor in the Oakland, California real estate market. Is obtaining a loan to buy real estate in Panama hard to get?
We have some issues with buyers getting financing for homes. Most financing issues are related to lower fico scores, not really seeing any problems with high fico score clients over 670. All banks are requiring more paperwork from borrowers and even the appraisers have more paperwork now. I’m hoping appraisal fees won’t increase as their paperwork has.
