Finding a gym in Panama City isn’t hard: there are plenty of different options to choose from. Here is a brief overview of some of the City’s most popular gyms.
Sport Tek – Sport Tek is located on Avenida Brasil, between Via España and the Transistmica and it is a fairly new (around 5 years old) gym. The two floor gym has a cardio level (upstairs) and a weight room downstairs. There is also a weight room specifically for women upstairs. The gym is open and airy, with large windows. There are also yoga classes and dance classes. Cardio machines include treadmills, elliptical machines, and exercise bikes. There are TVs stationed all
around the cardio floor, basically one for every cardio machine. The best time to go to the gym is midmorning, from about 9 to 11.
PowerClub – PowerClub is probably the most popular gym in Panama City. It has everything a high end gym in the states does, even a smoothie bar! It is a bit on the expensive side (about $80 a month) but that is about the going rate of gyms in Panama. PowerClub has free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment, as well as a number of classes (including spinning!). It is very similar to Sport Tek, but has 5 locations throughout Panama City. Visit PowerClub Gym for more information.
Curves – Curves is a good option for women looking to workout in a same sex environment. There are ten locations throughout Panama. You can view them by visiting Curves.com.
Fitness Club at the Veneto Casino – Okay, so this isn’t really a gym, but it is a cheaper option, at about $60/month. It is a basic gym, but isn’t the best for weight lifting (there are basically no free weights). However, it does have a nice sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, massage chairs, flat-screen TV, and, most importantly for me, a pool. The price per month also includes free wireless internet. Not bad for $60/month.
Other hotels also offer day passes/monthly memberships to their gyms and spa services. If you are just looking for a place to lift weights, a small mom and pop gym may be the place for you. However, if you are looking for the typical gym atmosphere that you will find in the states with comfort, style, and social networking with other foreigners you will want to go with the major chains or hotels.
