If you’re searching for a lot of quality Peruvian food for not a lot of money in Panama head straight to La Jarana in San Francisco. If you love fresh seafood, ceviche, piles of fried rice dishes, grilled meats, and Peruvian beer for under $10 a plate then this is your place. The atmosphere of the place is warm, slightly small and very festive. The tables and walls are painted vividly and artwork spans the dining area. The smell however, surpassed the scenery. I couldn’t wait to order and see what all the fuss was about.
Our first course came in the form of arroz con pollo or rice with chicken. The portion was enough to feed 3 or Read more
Decameron Panama, or The Royal Decameron Resort, Golf and Casino, is located just outside of Panama City in Farallon. This all inclusive resort has received mixed reviews from many visitors which leads me back to the issue of expectations when traveling Panama. When visiting this resort you should expect the typical Panamanian treatment and service. Your drink may not arrive at warp speeds, but you will get it. Your room may not be the most lavish nor will the hot water work 24 hours a day, but the staff won’t really care.
What you can expect in the Decameron Panama all inclusive resort is a great deal on food, drinks, fun and sun a short distance from the Read more
The food scene in Panama is constantly changing and evolving while keeping a strong hold on traditional cuisine as well. In Panama food can be found on nearly every street corner and borough to suit any palette as well as any wallet. If you are looking for traditional Panamanian food I highly recommend you check out El Trapiche in the El Cangrejo neighborhood on Via Argentina. Constantly filled with locals- evidence of the authenticity and quality of its Panamanian food-
El Trapiche offers everything genuinely Panamanian from the chicken soup to the deep fried corn tortillas, empanadas and plantains. You can expect to pay around $10 to $15 a plate at dinner in El Trapiche, but the quality of Read more
Panama is a hidden gem for surf lovers. Rumor has it that some of the world’s top surf spots are on the pacific coast of this stunning country however the people who know about them and the locals would probably keep them just that, rumors. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting surfers in Panama from Italy, the states, and even some army brats born and raised in panama who still come back every year to soak up the sun and challenge the vicious waves the coast has to offer. Every time I hear about or see a surf competition in neighboring Costa Rica I wonder to myself why big tournaments have yet to set in on Panama.

Panama is never short on Americanized conveniences such as fast food drive thrus and drinkable tap water. The food scene in Panama never fails to surprise either. In some neighborhoods you can get top quality sushi, traditional Panamanian food, killer pizza and vegetarian Chinese within walking distance of each other. For me this is one of the biggest perks of living in Panama City. El Cangrejo, which I have grown to admire, boasts hundreds of restaurants and bars to suit any budget or palette.
El Burger Bar in El Cangrejo serves better than average quality burgers and sides in a comfortable, clean atmosphere with surprisingly friendly staff and management. You can build your own burger from any type of Read more
Taking a stroll through the Casco Viejo neighborhood of Panama City has the uncanny ability to erase pictures of traffic, glaring casinos, and smoggy buses from your mind. This once severely dilapidated neighborhood in Panama City has been quickly renovated and revived in recent years and has taken on a whole new feel. Among other places to visit, Casco Viejo is known for being the historical center of Panama City. This charming district is reminiscent of the French Quarter in New Orleans in that it is loaded with French Colonial style architecture and charm. The President’s mansion, French Embassy, Museum of Natural History, Canal Museum, cathedral and multiple art galleries, shops and restaurants inhabit Casco. One could easily make Read more
Enjoying various places to eat in Panama has always been one of my favorite outings. Restaurants like Jimmy’s, in the San Francisco neighborhood, keep me coming back time after time and are always a sure bet for good food and cold drinks. A meal for two at Jimmy’s can range from $20 upwards of $80 depending on what is ordered. I usually manage to keep it around $40. Jimmy’s serves loads of grilled meats and seafood like many other places to eat in Panama; however, its atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and quality of food set it above the rest. When ordering in Jimmy’s, take the time to look over the “entradas” or appetizer menu. They have a wonderful array Read more
