I am happy to help anyone who wants to make the move to Panama with tips on how I have success in Panama, but I have to admit that sometimes getting back to those who e-mail me is pretty difficult, and time consuming.
So, this Gringo, along with all the other Gringo writers (see my blogroll for affiliate sites) have worked to create a database that puts you in contact with the people you need to reach in Panama (and Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador and more!)
If you are looking for legal services, real estate information, an English speaking assistant or driver, cosmetic surgery, dental work and so on, all you need to do is the Read more
Panama City has been ranked #21 on AskMen.com’s recent list of the best places in the world for men to live. It is the second highest ranked Latin American country on the list (preceded by Buenos Aires in Argentina at #13).
Here is the full article written for AskMen.com by Matt Landau:
There are certain things that only guys can understand: the pain of getting hit in the balls; the taste of a perfectly grilled steak; the thrill of driving a car way faster than you should. But what about living in a cosmopolitan city where the dollar goes further, the women swoon closer and the year-round temperature hovers somewhere near perfection? If Panama isn’t Read more
It’s a safe assumption that you are thinking about visiting Panama. Do so – it’s a great adventure and you will have a good deal of fun.
While the flights to Panama are quite reasonable from the continental U.S. ($300 to $500 on American/Delta and Continental), the onslaught of interest in Panama as a perfect second home and tourist destination has driven hotel prices through the ceiling. It is not unusual to pay $250 a night for a Wyndham or Marriott.
That is why renting a condo is such a fabulous idea. The Panama Gringo has a couple of condos for rent, one of which being the Punta Pacifica Condo, and the other being the SanRead more

As other traveling gringos will attest to, one of the most missed things on the road is American coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Panamanian style coffee almost any day of the week, but sometimes, I just need a good old American cup of joe!
That is where California Coffee comes into play.
California Coffee is hands-down the best American style coffee house in Panama. It serves a variety of imported coffees prepared by professionally trained baristas.
If that weren’t enough you can also grab lunch (they serve a fine selection of gourmet sandwiches), satisfy your sweet tooth (scrumptious baked goods) and check your e-mail (free Wi-Fi)! The sandwiches are good, the baked goods are great and the internet connection is Read more
It was Monday night and a fair amount of my regular haunts were closed. So the Gringo pulled our his handy Movistar phone and started calling his amigos in the ex-pat community of Panama City.
One thought was L’Olivo Restaurante in the San Francisco section of PC (close to Jimmys).
In short – great menu, great taste, great service, and great prices. About $8 to $10 for a large pasta serving in a very pleasant atmosphere.
Gamboa’s Rainforest Resort is an incredible hotel experience. Located within the Soberania National Park, this hotel is designed to accentuate the natural beauty of the region. The walls are covered in ferns and flowers and intricate iron fixtures in the shape of vines drape across the columns. The ceiling is decorated with birds, hung in mid-air.
The whole resort celebrates the rainforest; all three restaurants, both bars and the 198 rooms, condos and suites. The hotel isn’t about roughing it though. Guests are treated like royalty and get to enjoy all the fabulous amenities the hotel has to provide, including a gigantic pool with a swim-up bar and a number of amazing rainforest tours.

Now that the secret is out, the flights are usually quite full from the USA. Flights originate out of Orlando, Houston, Miami, Newark, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Expect to pay between $400 to $600 for coach. The Panama Gringo used to fly American Airlines through Miami but recently switched to Continental Airlines through Houston. Houston is leagues better than Miami – customs is more pleasant (although our customs people have a very very tough job every day) and the airport has everything you could need.
Here are some secrets to visiting Panama:

With the current economic situation in the States right now many are looking at moving southward. For those who arent yet retired, or dont have sufficient savings to stop working, what options are there for living and working in Panama?
For many the best option is to telecommute to their current job. As picture perfect as it sounds, this isnt always possible. The braver souls might look into investing in a current business (which you have to have the cash for) or starting up their own business. But what about the ones who just want to find work in Panama?
